Dr Longo was presented with his award at the 2011 IET Ambition and Achievement Awards ceremony in London last week [Wednesday 9 November].
The awards recognise some of the world's most outstanding engineers and technologists and acknowledge the talents of some exceptional students and young professionals.
In 2010 the IET鈥檚 Control and Automation Network launched a prize to recognise significant achievements for PhD students conducting research in the area of control engineering. The award is open to any person who had their PhD awarded by a UK institution.
