  • Triple success for social science researchers 21 October 2011 Three academics at the University of Bristol have received accolades from the Academy of Social Sciences in recognition of their significant contributions to the field.
  • Exhibition explores hidden meanings behind the Queen’s wardrobe 31 October 2012 An exhibition exploring how Queen Elizabeth II’s dresses played a pivotal role in British public diplomacy will mark the opening launch of ‘Thinking Futures’, a week-long festival [5 to 9 Nov] showcasing some of the most innovative social sciences research undertaken at the University of Bristol.
  • Multiple awards for Dr Ruth Glynn’s work on Italian women terrorists 19 August 2009 Dr Ruth Glynn from the Department of Italian has been awarded a Leverhulme Research Fellowship of £14,850 and two non-stipendiary fellowships at leading women studies centres in the USA to work on her research project, 'Women, Terror and Trauma in Italian Culture'.
  • University of Bristol selected as HP Innovation Research Award recipient 3 July 2009 Professor Robert Richardson, University of Bristol, is one of 60 professors to receive an award as part of HP’s Innovation Research Program.
  • Researcher inspired by life in a glass house awarded £1.3 million 20 October 2011 A scientist at the University of Bristol has been awarded £1.3 million to unlock the secrets of miniscule algae cells that have the remarkable ability to produce silica – the fundamental constituent of glass. It is hoped the findings from the research could lead to the next generation of medical imaging tools.
  • UNICEF honours Dr Blair 13 July 2009 Dr Peter Blair, Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Community-Based Medicine, has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by UNICEF UK.
  • Bristol student wins gold in Youth Olympics 19 March 2009 Emily Cousins, an undergraduate neuroscience student at the University of Bristol, has won the Olympic Gold Medal for Equestrian Dressage at the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney.
  • US research grant for Earth Sciences postgraduate 1 June 2009 Sarah Keenan, an MSc student in Palaeobiology in the Department of Earth Sciences, has been awarded a research grant by the Geological Society of America to fund field work in Montana and Texas.
  • British Academy grant to study ‘entrepreneurs of globalisation’ 7 May 2009 Dr Ranji Devadason from the Department of Sociology has been awarded a grant of £211,961 from the British Academy for her work on ‘entrepreneurs of globalisation’, people employed by multinational corporations and international NGOs who relocate for work.
  • Maths prize for Dr Browning 29 May 2009 Dr Tim Browning in the Department of Mathematics has won the 2009 Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Prize.
