  • Bristol enterprise leader named in UK’s top 100 30 March 2017 Director of Bristol’s iconic Engine Shed, Nick Sturge, has been announced in the Sunday Times prestigious Maserati 100 index; a list of game-changing entrepreneurs who are disrupting the business world.
  • £1.7million investment for Bristol cereal genomics group 21 April 2017 The University of Bristol has been awarded £1.7 million by the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) as part of a major investment in the UK’s bioeconomy totalling £77.9 million.
  • New grant for stem cell therapy in cardiovascular disease 16 December 2009 A new MRC grant of over £290,000 has been awarded to Paolo Madeddu, Professor of Experimental Cardiovascluar Medicine in the Bristol Heart Institute, to study stem cells in patients with cardiovascular disease.
  • New app to help improve maternity care secures £1.8 million funding for NHS trial 15 December 2022 A new tool which is able to identify early in pregnancy a woman’s chance of preterm birth or of developing problems with the placenta that may lead to stillbirth will be tested across 26 NHS Trusts for 36 months. The University of Bristol-led trial, will test the Tommy's App, a Clinical Decision Support Tool and will involve around 39,000 women each year.
  • Infectious disease modellers recognised for pandemic modelling work 10 November 2022 University of Bristol academics, Drs Ellen Brooks Pollock OBE, Leon Danon, Robert Challen, Amy Thomas and Emily Nixon have been recognised for their epidemiological modelling work supporting the UK government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Major funding boost for internationally-recognised healthcare research centres 11 December 2017 Three interdisciplinary research consortia, including the University of Bristol's SPHERE project, have been allocated more than £11 million to continue healthcare sensing systems research that is revolutionising how we identify and respond to outbreaks of infectious diseases, diagnose and manage lung diseases, and recognise and solve emerging health and wellbeing issues in the home environment.
  • University of Bristol-led consortium to receive nearly £12 million to unlock 6G technology potential 13 December 2022 The University of Bristol’s Smart Internet Lab and partners have been granted nearly £12 million from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to develop and industrialise technologies and solutions for future 6G mobile networks.
  • Bristol academic named dentist teacher of the year 2 December 2009 Susan Hooper, a consultant senior lecturer in the University of Bristol’s Dental School, has been named dentist teacher of the year by the Dental Defence Union (DDU), beating off stiff competition from the most talented and motivated teachers at the thirteen other dental schools in the UK.
  • Student Awards 2017 celebrate ‘exceptional’ achievements 8 December 2017 Having left school at 13 with no qualifications and a reading age of seven, Joshua Greenidge thought a university education was beyond his reach – until he saw a YouTube video about an access course at the University of Bristol.
  • Leverhulme grant for Widening Participation study 14 December 2009 A research group set up jointly by the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England (UWE) to study aspects of widening participation in education has been awarded a Research Project Grant by the Leverhulme Trust
