Bristol scientists to study oral bacteria that cause heart valve infection

Scientists at the University of Bristol are investigating how bacteria in our mouth can cause a heart problem, called infective endocarditis. Although uncommon, infective endocarditis is a serious condition that can often be fatal.

Major research project to study chronic pain

Chronic pain is a major global public health challenge that causes significant disability. A new research consortium and national chronic pain data hub could improve outcomes for the many people living with painful and debilitating conditions, such as fibromyalgia, lower back pain, headaches and migraines, thanks to a joint £14 million grant from UKRI and Versus Arthritis.

Bristol engineers receive Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Awards

Three University of Bristol engineers are the recipients of Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Awards. Professor Bruce Drinkwater from the Department of Mechanical Engineering received his award this year and Professor Dimitra Simeonidou from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Professor Paul Weaver from the Department of Aerospace Engineering were the recipients of the award in 2016.

Collaborative COVID-19 lockdown effort delivers major boost for vaccine innovation in Bristol

Faster vaccine development could be a step closer thanks to £4 million investment to Imophoron Ltd, a Bristol University biotech start-up developing a novel, next generation rapid-response vaccine platform called ADDomer™. Imophoron will use the investment to bring ADDomer vaccines to clinical stage, initially targeting three viruses, RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), COVID-19, and mosquito-borne Chikungunya.
