  • Bristol professor’s volcano research recognised in New Year Honours 31 December 2016 The Queen has bestowed a special honour on a University of Bristol professor whose volcanology research has helped to protect people living on the Caribbean island of Montserrat.
  • Professor Gene Feder awarded an OBE in New Year Honours 30 December 2016 Professor Gene Feder has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours List for services to healthcare and victims of domestic abuse.
  • Bristol named as UK’s smartest city 23 October 2017 Bristol has overtaken London as the UK’s leading 'smart city' according to the second UK Smart Cities Index, commissioned by Huawei UK and conducted by Navigant Consulting. The report is based on evaluations of 20 cities and their strategies, key projects and overall readiness in using digital technology to improve crucial civic services from transport infrastructure to healthcare.
  • Bristol chemist chosen for Humboldt Award 21 December 2016 Professor Varinder Aggarwal in the School of Chemistry has been elected to receive a Humboldt Research Award.
  • Theatre Collection awarded Designated status by Arts Council England 30 January 2020 The University of Bristol Theatre Collection – one of the world’s largest archives of British theatre history and live art - has been officially awarded Designated status by the Arts Council England.
  • Botanic Garden curator awarded prestigious RHS award 25 February 2016 A University of Bristol horticulturist is to be presented with one of the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) highest awards for his work with plants and education today [Thursday 25 February].
  • Vice-Chancellor’s Impact Award Winners 2016 1 December 2016 The winners of this year’s Vice-Chancellor’s Impact Awards, which showcase the diverse and important contributions th³Ô¹ÏÍø research makes to society, were announced at the Strategy Launch on 29 November.
  • Bristol neuroscientist wins public engagement award 20 December 2016 Dr Emma Robinson, Reader in Psychopharmacology, has won the 2016 Public Understanding of Neuroscience award from the British Neuroscience Association (BNA).
  • Heritage Lottery Fund boost for historic garden transformation 25 January 2016 A historic garden in the heart of Clifton has received a £35,000 funding boost from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to be returned to its former Georgian glory. Clifton Hill House, steeped in history since it was completed in 1750, has been owned by the University of Bristol for more than 100 years.
  • South West to host Europe's largest Arm supercomputer 17 February 2020 The region's leading universities, the GW4 Alliance, together with the Met Office, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), and partners, have been awarded £4.1 million by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to create Isambard 2, the largest Arm-based supercomputer in Europe.
