New £1M poultry research facility aims to improve bird welfare and help consumer confidence 24 January 2018 A new £1M state-of-the art poultry facility offering specialist, industry-focused research into both laying hen and broiler health, welfare, behavior and productivity, will open today [Wednesday 24 January] at the University of Bristol’s Veterinary School.

Mending the smallest of broken hearts 20 October 2015 Researchers at the University of Bristol have been awarded over £170,000 by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to produce a graft which may reduce the number of surgeries required to treat children born with certain types of congenital heart disease.

The moth making waves in sound technology 5 June 2019 A new ultra-thin sound proofing material inspired by the tiny sound absorbent scales found on the wings of a giant species of moth is being developed thanks to a £1.6 million EPSRC grant. The University of Bristol-led project will see the development of a new prototype material with exciting functional properties –broadband multidirectional absorption at a thickness only fractions of the sound wavelength- to help control noise pollution in cities, offices and homes.

Researchers hope to identify new drug targets to treat brain tumours 23 July 2014 Around 7,000 people in the UK develop primary brain cancer each year but only ten per cent of patients are still alive five years after diagnosis. A new research project has been awarded a grant of over £200,000 to look at a pathway in brain tumours called peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) and identify any possible new drug targets to treat the disease.
