  • Professor awarded international prize for courage in promoting science 6 November 2013 David Nutt, a Visiting Professor at the University of Bristol, has been awarded an international prize for courage in promoting science and evidence on a matter of public interest.
  • Royal award for saving babies’ lives around the world 26 November 2013 The University of Bristol has been awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher Education - the highest accolade for any academic institution – in recognition of its leading-edge research in obstetric and neonatal practice, which has made a positive difference to mothers and babies throughout the world.
  • Bristol engineer collaborates on award-winning cable-car project 26 November 2013 The Emirates Air Line across the River Thames has won an award from the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) – with a little help from Dr Mehdi Kashani of the Department of Civil Engineering.
  • Lifetime achievement award for Emeritus Professor’s work in tackling domestic violence 4 November 2013 A University of Bristol Professor has been awarded a prestigious ‘lifetime achievement’ award for her work in tackling violence against women. Gill Hague, Emeritus Professor of Violence Against Women Studies in the University’s School for Policy Studies, has been awarded a ‘Special’ award from the Emma Humphreys Memorial Prize (EHMP) to recognise her life's work in combating violence against women.
  • Dr Leech receives award from Heidelberg University 25 November 2013 Dr David Leech, Lecturer in the Philosophy of Religion, has received the prestigious Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award from Heidelberg University.
  • Creating the next generation of engineers and scientists 22 November 2013 The University of Bristol has been successful in receiving funding for seven Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) following the announcement of the UK’s largest investment in postgraduate training in engineering and physical sciences.
  • Bristol professor wins 2013 Martha T Muse Prize 1 July 2013 Professor Martin Siegert has become the first UK-based researcher to win the US$100,000 Muse Prize for Science and Policy in Antarctica. He was commended for his innovative research on Antarctic subglacial lakes and the reconstruction of Antarctic glacial history.
  • £283, 853 for study into marriage-related migration 2 September 2013 Researchers from the University’s School of Sociological, Political and International Studies (SPAIS) have been awarded £283, 853 to carry out a 26-month project looking at marriage-related migration.
  • Bristol researchers rewarded for excellence in psychopharmacology 6 August 2013 Bristol PhD students and academics from Professor Marcus Munafò’s and Dr Emma Robinson’s research groups were awarded six of 17 prizes for demonstrating excellence in clinical and non-clinical psychopharmacology and science communication at this year’s British Association for Psychopharmacology [BAP] summer meeting.
  • Robotic food helps scientists understand predators 30 August 2013 Dr Christos Ioannou at the University of Bristol has been awarded a five year research fellowship by NERC for the study of predator-prey relationships, using robotic prey to lure predatory fish.
