  • ESRC funds Bristol work on social research methods 7 March 2011 The tools for analysing research data in the social sciences are to be further refined and developed, thanks to funding from the Economic and Social Research Council that includes £1.4 million for a group from the University of Bristol.
  • University American football team win national NFL award 11 February 2011 The University’s American Football team ‘Bristol Barracuda’ has won a national award from the British Universities American Football League, the largest university competition for American football in Europe.
  • £530,000 to study Icelandic volcano 21 April 2011 Eyjafjallajökull, the Icelandic volcano that grounded air traffic across Europe last year, is the subject of a new research project at the University of Bristol, funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
  • MRC studentship for dental research project 7 January 2011 Dr Michele Barbour, Lecturer in Biomaterials Science, has been awarded a prestigious Medical Research Council PhD studentship for research into a new dental filling material.
  • RSC awards for Dek Woolfson and Steve Mann 20 April 2011 Two academics in the School of Chemistry have received awards from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
  • £199,000 for research on 'Dropping out of Socialism' 25 February 2011 Dr Juliane Fürst and Dr Josie McLellan from the School of Humanities' Department of Historical Studies have been awarded £199,269 from the AHRC for a research project that will explore the countercultures of late state socialism.
  • PhD student honoured by Dashkova Humanities Institute 20 November 2012 Jessica Tipton, a PhD student in the School of Modern Languages, has been awarded a Princess Dashkova Medal by the Dashkova Humanities Institute in Moscow.
  • PhD student wins Airbus award 12 November 2012 A postgraduate student from the University of Bristol’s Department of Engineering Mathematics has been awarded ‘best presentation’ at the annual Airbus PhD Day.
  • Children of the 90s: 20 years old today! 1 April 2011 Children of the 90s has been awarded £6m to continue its vital research into the health and well-being of thousands of young people and their parents in and around Bristol.
  • £406,000 for research on performance archives 23 February 2011 Researchers at the University of Bristol and the University of Exeter have been awarded a £406,828 grant from the AHRC for research into live art and performance archives.
