  • Capital Projects Office wins Client of the Year 24 July 2012 The University’s Capital Projects Office has won the Client of the Year Award in the Constructing Excellence South West and the Chartered Institute of Building South West Built Environment Awards 2012.
  • Psychologist emerges victorious in Olympic-themed competition 24 July 2012 Bristol University psychologist Dr Pete Etchells has won the science world’s equivalent of X Factor by answering over 450 questions from school children across the country to win their vote.
  • Vet School group receive award for significant advances in humane slaughter 24 July 2012 The Stunning and Slaughter Group at the University of Bristol’s School of Veterinary Sciences is the winner of the 2012 ‘HSA John Ace-Hopkins Award for Significant Advances in Humane Slaughter’.
  • £320k funding boost for dementia research 24 October 2012 Dementia research in Bristol has received a major boost thanks to a grant of £320k. The funding will enable researchers at the University of Bristol to carry out detailed experimental investigations of how electrical signals in brain circuits are disturbed by tauopathy — an important pathological hallmark seen in the brains of sufferers of Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias.

  • Department of Russian awarded £800,000 for major new study 16 February 2011 Professor Derek Offord from the Department of Russian has been awarded £800,000 from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to conduct the first large-scale history of the French language in Russia.
