Research into how human sperm swim in 3D 12 August 2020 Using state-of-the-art 3D microscopy and mathematics, Dr Hermes Gadêlha from the University of Bristol, Dr Gabriel Corkidi and Dr Alberto Darszon from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, worked to reconstruct the movement of the sperm tail in 3D with high-precision.

Crystal movement under Mount St Helens may have indicated 1980 eruption was likely 30 June 2016 A study of how crystals moved in magma under the Mount St Helens volcano before the 1980 eruption may have signalled that an eruption was probable. Scientists say that similar measurements may indicate the possibility of eruption in some other, well-studied volcanoes, but caution that this is not a technique which could be applied to every volcano.

Being overweight throughout life increases risk of heart disease and diabetes 6 May 2020 The association between childhood obesity and increased risk of coronary artery disease and type 2 diabetes is due to individuals remaining overweight into adulthood, finds a new University of Bristol study. The research, published in The BMJ today [6 May], investigated how the genetic influence of being overweight in 453,169 individuals at different stages of life contributed towards their disease risk.
