  • Ivor Victor Franklin, 1925-2022 20 May 2022 Ivor Franklin, a much loved and respected member of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, passed away in March this year. His friends and colleagues Sandy Mitchell and Steve Burrow offer a remembrance.
  • Janice Virgin, 1951-2014 11 November 2014 Janice Virgin, former member of the professional services staff, died recently. Her colleagues, Melissa Werrett and Dr Marc Holderied, offer a tribute.
  • Cynthia Galliers, 1939-2022 5 May 2022 Cynthia Galliers, former assistant to the Graduate Secretary and administrator of PhD graduate teaching and research programmes in the School for Policy Studies, passed away in early March. Her colleague Randall Smith offers a remembrance.
  • Jeremy Nicholls, 1958-2022 8 April 2022 Jeremy (Jerry) Nicholls, a cleaner in the Site Services team in the Physics Building, passed away suddenly on 21 March. Sally Hemmings and other colleagues offer some remembrances of Jerry.
  • Nick Talbot, 1977-2014 17 December 2014 Nick Talbot, a Bristol alumnus whose eclectic work as an experimental, alt-rock musician under the name Gravenhurst earned him an international reputation, has died at the age of 37.
  • Rowland Morgan, 1934-2014 15 December 2014 Professor David Blockley remembers Rowland Morgan, Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering, who died in July.
  • Helen Dury, 1977-2022 8 June 2022 Helen Dury, Portfolio Marketing Manager in External Relations, died suddenly in February. Her colleague Mary Millard offers a remembrance.
  • Roy Severn, 1929-2012 12 December 2012 Emeritus Professor Roy Severn CBE FREng FICE, one of the pioneers of earthquake engineering, died suddenly on 25 November 2012, aged 83. Professor David Blockley and Professor Colin Taylor offer an appreciation of his life and achievements.
  • Neil Burnie MRCVS, 1954-2014 26 November 2014 Bristol alumnus Neil Burnie (BVSc 1977), an internationally renowned vet and founder of the Bermuda Shark Project, died earlier this month in a tragic marine accident. His friend Robin Revell pays tribute to ‘the most unusual of veterinary surgeons’.
  • Dr David Emery, 1961-2022 20 April 2022 Dr David Emery, Research Fellow ³Ô¹ÏÍø Dental School, passed away on 20 March. His colleagues Shelley Allen-Birt and Nicola West offer a remembrance.
