  • Dr Michael Hayes, 1939-2022 25 January 2023 Dr Michael Hayes, Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry (Oral Biology) within the Department of Biochemistry, died on 22 September 2022. His colleagues Professor Dick Denton FRS and Dr John McGivan offer an appreciation.
  • Bertha Garrett, 1944-2024 25 July 2024 Bertha Garrett, who was until her retirement departmental secretary for the German Department, died in early July.   • Dr Colin Gill, 1932-2023 3 February 2023 Dr Colin Gill, Reader in Physics ³Ô¹ÏÍø until his retirement in 1988, passed away in January at the age of 90. His colleagues Professor Michael Springford and Dr Brian Pollard offer an appreciation.
  • Professor David Ewins, 1942-2023 3 February 2023 David Ewins, Professor of Mechanical Engineering who retired in 2006, has passed away aged 80. His colleagues in the School of Civil, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering offer a tribute to a world-leading researcher in structural dynamics who was an inspiration to a generation of students.
  • Ivan Laver, 1946-2023 5 May 2023 Ivan Laver, former Workshop Manager in Mechanical Engineering, passed away in late April. His friends Peter McKeighan and Troy Swankie offer a remembrance.
  • Dr WM Gibson, 1926-2023 21 July 2023 (William) Martin Gibson, a member of the University’s then Physics Department from 1949-53 as a Research Associate and 1960-85 as Senior Lecturer and Reader, died in February aged 96 at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. His colleague, Vincent Smith, offers a remembrance.
