  • Ros Oaten, 1956-2023 20 April 2023 Ros Oaten, Income Office Finance Assistant, sadly passed away suddenly on 27 March. Her colleagues offer this remembrance and thanks.
  • Professor Sir Eric Thomas, 1953-2023 22 November 2023 Professor Sir Eric Thomas, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bristol from 2001 to 2015, died in November 2023 at the age of 70. This is a tribute by Barry Taylor, a colleague and friend.
  • Professor David Easty, 1933-2022 20 January 2022 David Easty, retired Professor of Ophthalmology, died last week. John Armitage, Professor Emeritus 吃瓜网 Medical School, offers this remembrance.
  • Professor Mike Jones, 1953-2023 30 November 2023 Emeritus Professor Mike Jones died in September. His colleagues Professor Mark Clatworthy and Professor Stuart Cooper offer this remembrance to a pathfinder in many areas of accounting research who served as Professor of Accounting from 2009 to 2020 and as Head of Department of Accounting and Finance from 2009 to 2013.
  • Julian Maggs, 1962-2021 2 March 2022 Julian Maggs, Core Facilities Technician in the Faculty of Engineering鈥檚 Technical Services team, passed away on 20 December 2021, aged 59, following a battle with cancer. His colleague Lee Silver offers a remembrance.
  • Professor Mark Birkinshaw, 1954-2023 1 December 2023 Mark Birkinshaw, a distinguished Professor of Cosmology and Astrophysics in the School of Physics, died in July. His colleagues and friends Professor Belinda Wilkes and Emeritus Professor Steven Phillipps share their memories of Mark and recall his significant contributions to the field.
  • Dr Mark Souter, 1962-2021 24 February 2022 Dr Mark Souter, lecturer in the School of Education, died on Boxing Day 2021 after a short illness. His colleague Professor Paul Howard-Jones offers a remembrance.
  • Professor Michael Banton, 1926-2018 1 June 2018 Michael Banton, Emeritus Professor of Sociology, Senior Academic in the University of Bristol for many years and internationally renowned scholar, has passed away at the age of 91. Gregor McLennan, Professor of Sociology, offers a remembrance.
