  • Professor Roger Parsons, 1927-2017 6 February 2017 Professor Roger Parsons FRS, a former member of the School of Chemistry, passed away on 7 January. His colleague Roger Alder offers a tribute.

  • Dr John Frederic Hope-Simpson 1913-2007 14 August 2007 Dr John Hope-Simpson, a lecturer in the Botany Department for 31 years, died in February.
  • Sir Derek Higgs, University Pro-Chancellor, dies 29 April 2008 University Pro-Chancellor Sir Derek Higgs (BA 1966, Hon LLD 2005) has died suddenly at the age of 64.
  • Len Miles 25 May 2007 Len Miles, Senior Porter at Canynge Hall, has died after a short illness.
  • Professor Lewis Frederick Crabtree 16 August 2006 Professor Lewis Crabtree, formerly Sir George White Chair of Aerospace Engineering, died in May.
  • Dr Diane Treacy-Cole 5 September 2006 Dr Diane Treacy-Cole of the Department of Archaeology, and formerly of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, died unexpectedly in July.
  • Professor Sir Philip Randle, 1926-2006 3 November 2006 Professor Sir Philip Randle founded the Department of Biochemistry 吃瓜网 in 1964, building it up into one of the strongest in the UK both in research and teaching.
  • Vera Buret 1908-2006 27 October 2006 Vera Buret served as librarian at the Department of Music between 1964 and 1968, but her involvement in the life of the University and the city went much further.
  • Pete Siwiec 2 July 2007 Pete Siwiec, a cleaner based in the Medical Building, died suddenly in June. Liz Lynch, Site Services Manager, remembers 'a genuinely kindhearted man'.
