  • Catherine Walker, 1959-2017 13 December 2017 Catherine Walker, former Undergraduate Admissions Officer/Head of Undergraduate Admissions, has died aged 58. Claire Powell, Enquiries Manager, Student Marketing, offers a remembrance.
  • Dr Amber Young, 1963-2022 20 October 2022 Dr Amber Young, Honorary Professor of Burns Care at the University of Bristol, died peacefully at home on 17 September 2022 after suffering for a long time with breast cancer. Professor Jane Blazeby and colleagues in Bristol offer a remembrance.
  • Alistair Williams, 1959-2020 31 March 2021 Alistair Williams, Research Fellow in the Bristol Medical School, died last autumn. His colleagues in the Diabetes and Metabolism team offer a remembrance.
  • Tim Pigott-Smith OBE, 1946-2017 19 April 2017 Bristol alumnus Tim Pigott-Smith (BA Drama 1967), an acclaimed stage, film and television actor, has died at the age of 70.
  • Professor John Colley MD FRCP, 1930-2022 8 December 2022 Professor John Richard Thomas Colley died on 17 October aged 92. He was Professor of Public Health Medicine from 1976 until retirement in 1993, when he was appointed Emeritus Professor. His former colleague, Professor Michael Wadsworth (now Emeritus at University College London), offers an appreciation.
  • Sue Yeo, 1955 - 2017 23 February 2017 Sue Yeo, who worked as a digital operator within Print Services, died on 10 January 2017. Her colleague Amanda Gallacher offers a tribute.
  • Dr Gordon Reece, 1940-2017 21 February 2017 Dr Gordon Reece from the Department of Engineering Mathematics passed away recently. Monica Berry and Alan Champneys share this remembrance.
  • Dr John Hibberd, 1938-2021 21 April 2021 Dr John Hibberd, who played a major role in the life of the German Department from his arrival in 1963 to his retirement in 2000 and beyond, passed away earlier this month. This appreciation of his life and career as a teacher, translator and researcher also appears on the department's webpages.
  • Gordon Clarke, 1929-2021 18 May 2021 Gordon Clarke, who retired from the University’s Mechanical Engineering Department in 1994, sadly passed away recently at the age of 93. Colleagues in the School of Civil, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (CAME) offer this remembrance.
  • Professor Richard Dixon FRS, 1930-2021 25 June 2021 Professor Richard Dixon FRS, Emeritus Professor of Chemistry, died on 25 May 2021. Professors Mike Ashfold and Andrew Orr-Ewing offer this appreciation.
