Bristol Medical School researcher awarded prestigious Diabetes UK fellowship 14 December 2018 A Bristol Medical School researcher has been awarded a prestigious Diabetes UK fellowship to understand more about adult onset type 1 diabetes. It is estimated that more than 300,000 people in the UK are living with the disease which develops when the immune system makes a mistake and destroys the cells that make insulin.

Bristol mathematician awarded €1.8 million to research quantum algorithms 5 December 2018 Dr Ashley Montanaro, Reader in Quantum Computation in the University of Bristol's School of Mathematics, has been awarded a European Research Council (ERC) grant for his project ‘Quantum Algorithms from Foundations to Applications’.

Innovate UK awards for studies into sustainable livestock production and improving chicken welfare 17 August 2018 Bristol Vet School has been awarded two Innovate UK grants totalling nearly £160,000 for studies that aim to further our progress towards sustainable livestock production and improve broiler chicken welfare. The projects will use the new £1 million CIEL poultry house, funded by the CIEL.

£1 million donation to establish a 'living laboratory' for livestock 4 December 2018 A groundbreaking 'living laboratory' for livestock will be established at the Bristol Veterinary School thanks to a £1 million donation from the John Oldacre Foundation. The John Oldacre Centre for Sustainability and Welfare in Dairy Production will tackle the global challenge of ethical food security and train the next generation of vets and agriculturalists to help address the major issues facing agriculture.

Launch of new national network to boost innovation 6 September 2022 The University of Bristol is part of a new £6.75 million national network to accelerate UK innovation. The Innovation Launchpad Network+ brings together leading universities, the Catapult Network and regional innovation ecosystems to enrich the exchange of ideas and knowledge across these organisations.

NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre funded for another five years 14 October 2022 The National Institute for Health and Care Research Bristol Biomedical Research Centre (NIHR Bristol BRC) has been awarded nearly £12 million of new funding for the next five years. The funding has been awarded to University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust by the NIHR, with the University of Bristol a major partner.
